Sony Cybershot DSC W210 Review

The Sony Cybershot DSC W210 packs plenty of power with its 12 megapixel sensor. This camera is small enough to fit into most pockets. It is available in silver, dark grey, pink and green. The Cybershot DSC W210 has a 4x optical zoom lens.

For most purposes you are likely to find the 12 megapixels overkill. Even if you are looking to make large prints you should find 6 to 8 megapixels plenty unless you are looking to go up to poster size and beyond. If you were planning to do that then the likelihood is you would be looking to invest in a more expensive and better quality camera anyhow.

To me the big advantage of having so many megapixels is that Sony has included a feature called smart zoom. This allows you to increase the amount of zoom available as long as you are prepared to sacrifice some of the megapixels you shoot at. In the past I have even found that shooting at lower megapixels can increase the quality of the images you shoot. Other advantages include taking up less space on a memory card and faster times to upload your photos to a computer. If you activate smart zoom you can increase zoom up to 25x. This may be overkill as at that setting you can only capture pictures for playback on a computer or television screen, but there are plenty of steps in the middle where you can find the right balance between print size and zoom.

The Cybershot DSC W210 fits into a group of pocket cameras that are less expensive than the top of the range models. The main reasons behind the savings tend to be the design of the cameras and the build quality. If you do not mind a fairly plain looking digital camera then you can save yourself plenty of money.

In terms of features there is not that much to choose between this camera and some of the more expensive ones. The 2.7 inch LCD screen compares well enough and the only obvious feature I can think of that is missing here is mechanical image stabilisation. This is where image stabilisation is handled either by gyroscopes in the lens or by making tiny shifts to the position of the sensor.

Aside from this Sony has incorporated some of the latest buzz features. These include face detection for sharper portraits and a smile shutter that automatically fires off a shot when the Cybershot DSC W210 detects someone is smiling. I have never noticed face detection making that much difference to a portrait shot and only you can decide how much value a smile shutter adds to the camera for you. Something you do not often see on a camera this size is the ability to add conversion lenses. This can improve the telephoto or wide angle capabilities of the camera. In order to do this you also need to buy a lens adapter.

The camera is able to produce High Definition still images, but it can only output standard definition movies.

On the whole I found the camera easy to use. Sony lays out its menus in a sensible way. They are icon rather than text based, but text does show up as you scroll through the icons.

When it comes to picture quality the Cybershot DSC W210 does a solid job. I cannot claim the pictures it produces are anything out of the ordinary, but on the whole the camera does a decent all round job if you are looking for a general snapshot camera with a reasonable price tag.

Similar cameras you may wish to take a look at include the Panasonic Lumix FS6, Panasonic Lumix FS7, Panasonic Lumix FS15 and the Olympus FE-5000.

Digital Versus Analogue Tape Transcription - The Pros And Cons Considered

For years, analogue audio tapes were the only option available to clients for recording dictation, interviews or conferences and focus groups. Standard audio tapes were the medium of choice for interview or group recordings while mini tapes and micro cassettes for use in Dictaphones were the industry standard for any dictation. Latterly, digital recorders have very quickly overtaken the old tape formats and there are so many advantages to switching to a digital recorder that it can't be dismissed as just the latest fad.

Digital recorders produce a far superior quality of recording which doesn't deteriorate over time. There are no length restrictions to digital files as there are to a tape lasting 60 or 90 minutes - digital recordings are as long as you need them to be. Digital sound files do not 'physically' break or become mangled or stretched through repeated use as audio tapes are prone to do. Digital recordings can also be copied with no loss of quality, so when you send a digital file to a transcriber, you're simply sending a copy of the digital recording while the original stays on your PC. There's also none of the usual deterioration experienced when copying tapes - the digital copy you send is as clear as the original. If you need to add extra material in the middle of a recording, such as when dictating, it's easy to do with digital but almost impossible with tapes without having to rerecord whatever comes after that section. Similarly, if you want to edit out unnecessary sections that don't need to be transcribed, it's far easier with digital than it is for analogue. Audio time markers can be inserted into the transcript to indicate precisely where inaudible or unclear words may be on the digital recording. There are also fewer storage space issues as back up recordings saved to CDs take up less room than tapes.

As with all recordings, it's worth remembering that all the common sense things involved in making a clear recording apply just as much to digital as they do to analogue recordings. Just because it's digital, don't be fooled into thinking that the recording will be unaffected by background noise, the lack of a microphone or equipment interference. If handled properly, digital can produce superb recordings. A good quality recording in turn reduces transcription time and costs significantly and results in fewer inaudible sections and a more complete transcript. As the quality tends to be excellent for all digital recordings, most transcription companies can offer a fixed per audio minute price so that clients know in advance what their overall costs will be. Tape quality is too variable to be able to do this, and is usually charged at an hourly rate.

One of the biggest bonuses with digital recordings is that they can be delivered to the transcriber quickly and easily. The digital files can be sent via a secure FTP service over the Internet. This is a tremendous advantage for business people who travel frequently. Whatever their location in the world, they don't need to wait till they return to the office, or are near a post office, to send tapes to their transcriber. As long as they have access to a suitable PC and a fast Internet connection, digital sound files can be uploaded from the recorder directly onto a PC and then sent to the transcriber. Using digital recordings also eliminates postage costs - digital files are simply deleted by the transcriber when the transcript is completed. The extra time involved in packing up tapes, visiting the post office and the risk of losing precious original tapes also disappears. If your transcription project is urgent or on a large scale, such as an ongoing interview project or a lengthy conference, the sound files can be divided among several transcribers, which is a lot easier and safer than physically dividing up original tape recordings.

In the spirit of fairness there are some disadvantages to digital. They require a compatible PC with a sizeable hard drive to store large digital files, and a USB connection but typically, most small businesses already have such a business tool anyway! If all the digital files are on one PC, they can be vulnerable if not backed-up. It's also essential to have a fast Internet connection in order to transfer digital files to the transcription company. Digital files can be very large - some formats take up a lot of memory and using a dial-up connection is simply not practical, taking hours to transmit even the smallest digital file. WAV format produces an excellent quality of sound but does result in huge files. Other formats such as DSS, MP3 or WMA take up less memory. Other formats produce very small files but don't necessarily produce the same good quality sound - it's best to check first on a test recording that the quality is adequate for transcribing. Whatever digital file type is chosen needs to be compatible with transcription software in order to be transcribed.

Each digital format has advantages and disadvantages which should be taken into account when considering which recorder to buy, which file type to use, and whether there are any transcription issues involved. With all digital files, there is a trade-off between recording quality and file size. Digital sound files can be extremely large if they're not compressed, but compression is 'lossy'. In other words, if you compress an original 'lossless' audio file to a smaller size, this removes redundant data but may also result in a reduction in audio quality. This can create problems with the transcription - it's akin to having an original audio tape copied to a less clear version. It's advisable to ensure the uncompressed digital recording is sent to the transcriber to avoid any loss in quality from the original. Having made an investment in digital equipment, why compromise on the final recording file quality just to get a smaller digital file and make a faster online transfer to the transcriber? Far better to set aside extra time to upload the digital files (or even leave them 'cooking' while you do something else), than end up with an inferior recording which takes longer to transcribe, costs more and may result in an incomplete transcript.

One of the main disadvantages with digital is that some people are reluctant to learn new technology which they perceive to be complicated. It can always be daunting to try out a new recorder for the first time, especially if you've been comfortable with an 'old faithful' tape recorder which has performed adequately for years. But our experience over many years in the transcription industry has convinced us that digital is the way to go! The superior quality of recording, coupled with the ease of file transmission and, more importantly, reduced transcription costs have convinced many clients to change to digital. Transcription companies are more than happy to assist any client who's thinking of making the switch from analogue to digital recordings, and can even recommend equipment suppliers who can offer more specialised technical advice to make the transition as trouble free as possible.

The disadvantages to analogue tapes are many and varied and the converse of all the digital advantages above obviously apply. Tapes produce inferior quality recordings which are more subject to background hiss, with playback quality deteriorating over time. All analogue tapes, be it standard audio, mini and micro cassettes, have a limited life and if reused too many times can break or become chewed up. Tapes can also take time to reach the transcriber through the post, resulting in delays in starting the transcription, or they can even be lost in transit. Obviously, postage costs are additional as well. Audio tapes are very restrictive in terms of length - 60 or 90 minute tapes being the norm and if you try to cram more on by recording at a slow speed, the recording quality deteriorates. Parts of the recording will also be missed as the tape is turned over from one side to the other. Significant storage space will be needed if large volumes of recordings are made and any subsequent copy recordings are less clear than the original. Using audio time markers is also not very precise with analogue recorders as each tape recorder and playback transcription equipment have different counters making any time codes inaccurate.

As you can see, the advantages of digital far outweigh the disadvantages, and we hope that the sheer number of analogue disadvantages speaks for itself. If you have invested a great deal of time and effort arranging interviews, focus groups or conferences, why ruin them by using an inferior system?

Tape Recording Meetings

Tape recording of conversations in meetings has become widespread nowadays. This is because tape recording meetings enables people to know all the meeting proceedings just as they had occurred. Jotting down meeting proceedings is not a fool-proof method of recording meeting discussions as some facts and words spoken and discussed at the meeting are invariably omitted due to human error. But the tape recording of meetings ensures that all meeting proceedings are recorded. The tape recording of meetings provides an appropriate answer to the question: How to record meeting minutes? By playing back the tape at some point of time after the meeting, people can get to hear who said what at the meeting. They get to know each and every conversation and dialogue and therefore get acquainted with more than just the meeting minutes or gist of the meeting. The tape recording of meetings is supported by the 3279 Conference Recorder Package, Marantz PMD511 Conference Recorder with built-in Mixer, Sanyo 8800 - 3 Speed Conference Recorder and Transcriber, Eiki 5090 Package, Panasonic Micro Cassette Conference Recorder & Transcriber Package, Sony M2000 Micro Cassette Conference/Transcriber Package, The PMD221 Package, Sony Bm87 Conference Recorder & Transcriber, and some other well-known gizmos of the same type.

Digital Voice Recording

The tape recording of meetings has given rise to the phenomenon of digital voice recording. Several ultramodern digital voice recorders have flooded the market today as the use of digital voice recorders in meetings has increased exponentially. Some of the most renowned digital voice recorders of meetings are Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder, Sony ICD-U60 Digital Voice Recorder, Olympus DS-61 Digital Voice Recorder, Olympus WS-311M Digital Voice Recorder, Olympus LS-10 PCM 2GB Digital Voice Recorder, Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder, etc.

Transferring Recorded Tape to a CD

It is easy to transfer a recorded tape to a CD nowadays. Audacity, a smart audio recorder and editor, helps you to transfer a recorded tape to a CD. It is also easy to convert recorded tape to mp3. Converting recorded tape to mp3 has become the order of the day. This is because lots of people like to listen to their favorite albums from their computers or iPods. The Alive WMA MP3 Recorder is a great device that helps you to convert recorded tape to mp3 files. Recording cassette tapes to CD formats has also become simple with the presence of Audacity, Media Digitalizer and other devices. Media Digitalizer helps you to record cassette tapes to CD, MP3, WAV and WMA formats.

Far Reaching Consequences of the Tape Recording of Meetings

All these facilities have evolved to make the tape recording of meetings easier and to make life easier. Without such high-performance audio software and devices, you would have to write down all the proceedings of a meeting in shorthand or long hand and that would be time consuming. Besides, your writing would be inaccurate as it is not humanly possible to document all that's said in a meeting, correctly. Also, without such hi-tech devices you wouldn't be able to transcribe conversations, meeting discussions and music to different platforms, i.e. you wouldn't be able to convert recorded tape to MP3, CD and WAV formats. If you couldn't convert recorded tape to different formats, you'd have to lug along your tape recording device everywhere if you wanted others to listen to the meeting proceedings. This instant file conversion makes conversations and music portable. It is so much easier to carry a CD than to carry an entire stereo system or other device. Moreover, file conversions to the MP3 format make files accessible from your PC or laptop. MP3 files can be sent to key people by email also unlike files on a CD. So, the tape recording of meetings has far reaching consequences. The tape recording of meetings is an activity that addresses the needs and solves the communication problems of a company on a wide spectrum basis.

Managing Meetings

While tape recording meetings has gained a lot of popularity, the importance of managing meetings has also gained priority. Company heads have got fed up of hiring the services of event planners and meeting managers because these people charge exorbitant fees and do not make any real difference to the meeting process. So, company bigwigs have taken to relying on online meeting managers. There too, they have met with disappointment as all online meeting managers are not up to scratch. Is It Possible To Get Access To Cell Phone Records

One problem with modern technology, is that for every advancement that can be used for good it can also turn around and be used for evil. Getting access to cell phone records is one example of this.

In this article we will take a look at some of the ways you can use cell phone records in a positive way to help yourself when it comes to tracking a cheating spouse.

In the past keeping track of what your spouse was doing involved a couple of things. You could attempt to do it yourself which caused mental anguish and took up a lot of time. If you can afford it you could hire a private investigator to let them investigate for you.

The Internet began to make it possible for you to track what your spouse was doing online. And as people begin to use cell phones on a regular basis you could even try and track recent cell calls or even take them yourself if your spouse was careless.

It was reported that America blog obtained General Wesley Clark's cell phone records for $89.95 to prove a point about how easy it was to obtain his cell phone records. This led to a law being passed known as a Consumer Telephone Records Protection Act of 2006. If you are the actual owner of the cell phone, and can prove it, you can purchase cell phone records.

You can easily see how having access to such information could be used for a disadvantage by terrorists and others. So if you are trying to catch a cheating spouse, and you want records of their cell phone calls, what can you do.

If you are the legal owner of the phone you can hire a private investigator and have them forensically examine the phone. This is known as Digital Forensics. It is possible to access deleted text messages, caller ID records, and deleted address book entries, from a a cell phone, handheld electronic device, or a Blackberry,.

Another thing a spouse can do is to give a cell phone as a gift and have GPS installed that tracks everything that they do. You can also check for online cheating by searching online personal ads to see if your spouse's email address shows up. This is known as a dating service assessment.

It is possible to access cell phone records if it's done legally. Keeping track of what your spouse is doing can be done by yourself, or you can hire a private investigator and do it very affordable today thanks to modern technology.

Ed Opperman invites you to visit his dating service search website for all of your investigation search needs. To learn how you can access cell phone records, do an email IP address trace, cyber investigations, telephone investigations, and more, please go here now: ===> http://www.emailrevealer.com

Tips For Recording Acoustic Guitars

Image : http://www.flickr.com

So after a few years of using and recording with various Zoom products (h4, H4n and H2) I thought I would share some tips and strategies that I have found to be useful when doing home recordings of my acoustic guitars. Some of these may seem a little simplistic, but so many times I have heard amateur sounding recordings that could've sounded a lot better with just a little bit of care.

  • First and foremost: TUNE YOUR GUITAR! If you are at all unsure of how to tune or maybe your just a little on the lazy side when it comes to this please get a tuner and use one. There are some great ones available for iPhone now too!

  • Change those strings! Now this one is a little more tricky, and depends on personal taste. When recording nylon string guitars it can be better to change the strings 5 or 6 days before a recording session and give the strings a little time to "break in". This will help to reduce string noise (like when you slide on the neck) and give the bass strings a slightly more mellow vibe which a lot of classical/nylon guitar enthusiasts enjoy. It will also give them time to stretch out and improve your tuning stability. When it comes to steel string recordings, especially if you are doing them in a band setting, I say change them as often as possible, they take very little time to stretch out and that bright characteristic of the new strings lends itself well to steel string acoustic recordings. In both instances: nylon or steel string however, dead strings will not record well, will not tune properly and will ruin what could otherwise be a very good recording!

  • Whats in a pick? Now I realize that we all have our preferred pick that we are comfortable with and enjoy the tone it produces, and in a live setting this is absolutely fine (crucial in fact!). However, when you are recording keep in mind that you have the ability to capture a certain tone exactly how you wish and this setting is the perfect time to experiment with different gauges of pick. Maybe your regular pick allows you to produce a beautiful fat singing lead tone but might fall a little short when it comes to strumming. Experiment here and you can really up the ante! It's little details like this that make all the difference in the world!

  • Placement, placement, placement! It's so easy to get into a rut when it comes to microphone placement, especially if you are a bedroom recorder or live in a smaller apartment. We tend to "set it and forget" always recording in the exact same place. You would be amazed at the differences in tone color just by sitting back a few more feet away from the mic than you usually do! How about recording in the bathroom? On your balcony? Go back to your childhood and build a fort out of blankets and couch cushions! the opportunities are really endless if you use your imagination and again a great recording is all about these little details! I have read scientific articles that claim that the human brain recognizes the timbre (quality of sound) of a recording more than it actually recognizes the music itself!! So spend some time!

  • Make, model and quality of your instrument. Have you ever heard the saying "you can't polish a tird?" well it some ways this is very true, you're never going to make your 100 dollar Yamaha sound like a 6,000 dollar custom build. But play to your instruments strengths, sometimes the cheaper guitars have a very nice throaty/midrangy sound and you could easily use this to your advantage. Also try and meet as many other guitar players as you can and TRADE your instruments. Having a variety of different guitars available makes a huge difference in what you can capture with your recording gear and is also very inspiring!

I hope some of these tips will be of help, remember recording anything is a journey and you have to be willing to experiment as much as possible to find a great sound, whatever that may be!

Agfaphoto DV-5000HD Video

*WATCH IN HD* Shot this outside from my porch. Day was overcast. This is at the highest quality setting for the camcorder. EV was set to -0.6(range being 1.8 to -1.8). There are three settings for video quality. They are Fine, Standard and Economy. 1280by720,720by480,352by240 are your recording options.Audio was synced in seperately using Sony IC-Recorder ICD-B600 for recording. File was encoded with Avidemux. Audio was recorded to pc and exported using Audacity. The recorder only does Mono(the voice recorder;not audacity), which explains the muted sound of things. I just got into the audio syncing phase and this was all I had sitting around. Any questions and I will do my best to answer. Got this for around 100 dollars from Wal-Mart about 3 months ago. I think the MSRP is like 150 dollars. One more thing, the internal mic for this cam is subpar. If all you're going to use it for is recording your vlogs or just covering your friends or family during a family outing or trip it would be perfect. But then on one hand, it should be noted that you can hear that 'projector' like sound so common in lower end consumer camcorders. There is no external mic jack. It uses sd and sdhc cards(up to 8gb I think) Using an 8 gig sdhc @ 1280by720 at Fine settings, you get 2:52:18, Standard gets you 3:25:54, Economy gets you 4:15:41. No Image Stabilization, so get a tripod if you want some stabilization. It has a 3x digital zoom, but if you're at least halfway knowledgeable of camcorders you ...
